Junk Mail filter setup for Outlook

This page describes how to configure Microsoft Outlook to filter Junk Emails.

Note: This only applies to Microsoft Outlook, NOT Outlook Express.

Note2. We assume that you have already started Microsoft Outlook.

1. Click on the "Tools" menu, then click "Organise". (Note that there is also an icon on the toolbar to get into the Organise feature.

2. Click on the "Junk E-Mail" link, which is to the left of the Organise window.

3. Select what you want outlook to do with the Junk Email, by selecting to either "Move" or "Colour" the junk emails. If selecting "Move" then you also need to tell it where to move them to - we recommend moving to the "Junk Email folders". If selecting "Colour", then choose a colour that stands out. Once done with your choices, click on the "Turn On" button. (Note: If the button says "Turn Off", then the feature is already enabled. To change the options, simply turn it off, then select options, then turn it back on.)

4. Repeat the above step for the "Adult Content" messages.

5. Exit the organise function by the same method that it was launched from (click Tools, Organise, or by clicking on the Organise icon)

Your Done!

Note: Outlook checks the messages for keywords to identify them as junk email. It is not 100% accurate. It may mistake a genuine email for Junk, and shift it to the Junk Folder, so we recommend that you check the Junk Email folder from time to time and then clear it out once you are certain that no Genuine emails are in there. It may also let some Junk emails through, undetected, into your inbox, but if this happens, there is a way to prevent further emails from that sender from ending up in your inbox. To do this, simply right-click on the Junk-Email message in your inbox, and select "Junk Email", then "Add to Junk Senders list". If ever you need to review or edit the Junk Senders List, just go into the Organise feature (as above), then click "Junk E-Mail", then click "Click Here" (where it says "for more options"), then click "Edit Junk Senders".
