Virus Removal via McAfee software

This page contains instructions on how to clean up your computer, if you suspect that it has a virus on it.
Note. Make sure you are connected to the internet first!

Step 1 - Remove any new or serious virus threats:

This is done by using a program called the "Stinger".

1. Go into the Stinger page at http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger

2. Click "Download Stinger.exe". When prompted, click "Open", and the program begins to download.

3. When the Stinger program comes up,  click the "Scan Now" button. Let the program run right through until finished.

4. Restart your computer.

Step 2 - Do a thorough scan for all known viruses:

1. Firstly, make sure your VirusScan program's virus definitions are up to date. This can be done by following our instructions on the page at www.pps.net.au/help/mcafee.htm

2. Click "Start", "Programs", "Network Associates", "VirusScan", to launch the VirusScan program.

3. Click on "All Files" to make sure everything is scanned. On the "Action" tab, change the action to "Clean files automatically". Start the scan by clicking the "Scan" button. The scan now starts. This may take a long time, anything from 10 minutes to an hour, depending upon the speed of your PC and the number of files on it.

4. If any viruses were found, then I suggest that once the scan is finished, Restart your computer, and do another scan (by repeating step 2) to confirm that the system is now clean. If it finds another virus, then I suggest that you contact us to arrange a support call.
